The roof normally gets folded into the space behind the rear seats. This are automatically or manually operated. Most modern tops are made of a durable polycyclic canvas or vinyl. They are designed in such a way that it folds back and leave the car open to the air and light, look impressive. The cloth used for the top of a convertible car, or ragtop, provides specific challenges for cleaning and maintenance. The material which is been used usually has a tight weaves that tends to gather dust. Thus the dust will be settled into the weave and creates friction much like sandpaper.
Tips to maintain convertible tops
Convertible tops should be cleaned from dust at least twice a year and more frequently if a car is parked outside. Don’t use low quality cleaners use only high quality of cleaners which are specifically designed for this purpose. Try to use a cleaner which is biodegradable. Never use abrasive detergents or scouring powders that contain chlorine-based bleaching agents. Never wash the top in the direct sunlight wash them only in shade. Before wetting the top make sure that it is cool.
