In today's world where safety and security are one of the main concerns, a bullet resistant glass can be a great way to protect against bullets and missiles. They rank among the most advanced forms of glasses that are available in the market. In simple terms, a bullet resistant glass does not break even if a bullet strikes it. It has that strength and tenacity to withstand the shock of the penetrating bullet. It is also referred to as bullet proof glass in some countries.
Features of Bullet resistant glass
The main feature that makes a bullet proof glass so effective against bullets is its thickness. This thickness is capable enough to stop the bullet even if it is traveling at a very high speed. The finish, high durability and low cost of production make it a wonderful form of safety glass suited for various types of security purposes. This form of glass is used for both administrative and personal purposes. Even vehicles are fitted with bullet proof glasses to prevent against any type of attacks.
In most cases, bullet resistant glass is made of a strong and transparent material. The material mainly used is polycarbonate thermoplastic while in some cases, various layers of laminated glasses are also used. The protection depends on the thickness of the material and also the quality.
- Usually, the polycarbonate thermoplastic material is a combination of a number of items such as Cyrolon, Lexan, Armormax, and Makroclear and so on. These make it stronger against bullet wounds.
- In addition to bullets, the hard material also prevents damage against blunt weapons such as hammer, axes and so on. The thickness, in most cases, ranges between 70 to 75 mm. Depending on the requirement the thickness can be controlled without affecting its resistant properties or strength.
Types of bullet resistant glass
Due to technological advancement, more developed forms of bullet proof glass known as one way bullet resistant glass has been invented. This type of glass is mainly used in armored vehicles to make them stronger. This safety glass can effectively prevent both short arms bullets and bullets of high forces.
Usually, the one way bullet proof glass has two layers, an exterior layer and an interior layer. In addition to the bullets, this type of glass is also effective against missile attacks.
To make bullet resistant glass more effective, scientists and researchers are developing better materials. In fact, the US military has already successfully tested one such advanced bullet proof glass.
There are lots of manufacturers of bullet resistant glass that one can opt for as per the needs and preferences. The cost of the glass is also more or less reasonable makes it more popular among consumers and governments all over the world. In the future years, more developed models will be introduced into the market.
