Used Jaw Crushers - Would It Be A Solid Investment?
Should one look into buying used jaw crushers?
A jaw crusher may be very handy in the daily operation of your business. To put it simply the machine crushes materials to a finer and more desirable consistency. It all depends on what your requirements are. The reduction ratio works out to be 6:1.
For many businesses which operate at a smaller scale a brand new crusher can be a huge expense, thus another option to look at would certainly be a used crusher.
With any second hand purchase you want to know the exact history of the instrument. The seller may not always be as forthcoming with accurate information, thus you will have to check a few things.
Ask for the maintenance records from the previous owner to see if it was serviced on a regular basis.
Depending on your needs, you do not want to use a machine that had to crush the toughest material out there when your requirements are for example the crushing of soft limestone.
When a crusher has some sort of crack it usually gets fixed by welding it. So inspect the frame very closely and ask about anything you are uncertain of. When looking at this it will give you a very good indication of how roughly the machine was operated and used.
Now look at the flywheel. Check if some work and maintenance was done on this part.
On all jaw crushers there is a space between the the sides and the jaw plates. The spacing should be the same on both sides. When you discover that the gap is not the same size it indicates that there has been excessive wear and tear on the eccentric housing.
Can the flywheels be turned by hand smoothly and without noise? Seeing that it does not run smoothly it could be an indication that there is a problem with the bearing.
Are the grooves on the flywheel intact or worn out?
Look at both the cheek and the jaw plates, are they worn out? If so it is not good.
Please take the above points into consideration if you decide to acquire a crusher. Ask questions and be sure they are answered to your satisfaction. Remember if there is something you are not happy about there are several places that sell used equipment.
