Milling Speed for surface cutting tool steel.?
Looking for a god cutting spped for tool steel. I've got a 5inch cutter with 6 coated carbide inserts. Need to know a good spindle rpm, inches per minute feed rate and a good depth per cut? Thanks.
Answer:
RPM = 12CS/Pi D
CS= cutting speed for the material in ft/minute.
D is dameter in inches. You use cutter dia. here for milling purposes.
The linear feed rate depends on the no. of teeth in the cutter, and the chip depth you wish to use. Too fast or too slow are both bad for the cutter.
You decide the thickness (say .005" per tooth, for an example).
So each revolution of the cutter, it would need to advance .005" x No. of teeth.
Multiply this by the cutter RPM selected, and you have feed rate in inches/ min.
The chip thickness and depth of cut are controlled by the cutter's physical form, and feed rate. You may need to vary the feed rate and depth of cut to suit.
Cutting speed for carbide in tool steel? Probably around 120- 140 FPM. Remember, the cutter diameter is what you use when calculating the RPM.
The type of cut that you are taking also comes into consideration, i.e. facing, slabbing or trenching type operations.

My number one companion is my husband, John. He knows the best present to get me is always chocolate, and gifts of decadent dark chocolate became linked in my memory to my devotion to him. For our first anniversary, he gave me the sweetest present I've ever received : almond jewels from Koppers.
I don't eat chocolate on a daily basis ; John knows that I wait for his gifts so I have got a reason to spend. When I first tried the almond jewels, I assumed they were solid chocolate. The first bite I took was silent, and then on the second bite I felt the crunchy taste of almonds add to the delight of the chocolate. I couldn't get enough of them!
Sharing these tasty and superbly coated candies was the perfect way to spend our anniversary. We chatted, enjoyed our scrumptious treats, giggled and grinned, and had a laid-back night. The flavour of the chocolate let us relax and simply enjoy the smashing sight of one another. The sweetness of the chocolate mirrored the sweet feelings I was feeling for him on that night. I cannot think about my affection for John without also tasting those delicious almond jewels.
