What potentiometer should I use with the Arduino Mega?
I have a project in mind that requires the use of several potentiometers as angle gauges. I need a potentiometer that will go from the 5V power supply to an analog input pin on the Arduino. The potentiometer needs to have no resistance at the lowest setting and nearly completely cut the 5V at the highest. It should not cut out all of the current before it reaches the highest setting, hence "nearly completely cut". What do you think? What value of pots should I buy?
Answer:
It sounds like you need something like a 100K potentiometer. Almost all potentiometers that you choose will be a short between the wiper and one pin at the low end and a 100K will have a resistance of 100K ohms at the high end (which might fit your "almost cut off" constraint).
Two good websites to look at are www.digikey.com or www.mouser.com. There are lots of different potentiometers and you can browse through them to see which ones will fit your project physically (size, knob, pins).
Good Luck!
