Use Police Gloves For Hand Protection - Even If You Are Not In Law Enforcement by Thomas Urville
It's common to see police officers and other law enforcement officers wearing tactical gloves or similar types of police gloves on the job. But did you know you can get equipment that's idential in functionality (and style) to that which the police use?
You might not want to walk around with obvious law enforcement gear, but some styles of police glove are both unobtrusive and stylish, while offering the features that make tactical gear so useful and effective.
You see, most law enforcement agents need to protect their hands against sharps. Sharps are anything with the potential to puncture the skin, especially things that can cause infection. Mostly, the term refers to hypodermic needles and similar items. But it can also apply to bits of broken glass.
Officers often have to search suspects. This entails putting their hands in pockets or other hard to see areas. Since many suspects are drug users, this is a big problem.
Good police gloves offer unmatched puncture resistance. And since they're often made with kevlar or other modern fibers, they confer cut resistance on the wearer too. It's not enough just to wear a pair of leather gloves. The gloves have to be designed for puncture resistance from the beginning.
Another important feature that's used in many brands and styles of police duty gloves is good knuckle protection. Aside from the obvious benefits of hard knuckle gloves during fights and physical confrontations with suspects, the knuckle protection is also essential for motorcycle officers or anyone who might have to break a window. This sort of impact resistance gives the officer a sense of confidence and enhances his capabilities.
Good hard knuckle gloves are surprisingly unobtrusive. Usually, the plastic knuckle guards are covered with a layer of leather. This reduces noise, makes the gloves harder to see at distance, and makes them a bit less imposing.
Finally, good police gloves need to work well as shooting gloves. Although they don't need padded palms or gel inserts like gloves used on the shooting range, they have to ensure a good amount of dexterity in the hands and especially in the shooting finger.
