Facts Concerning Tactical Flashlights
The tactical flashlight is commonly known as a tactical light. It is used with a weapon when looking for a target. Blinding or disorienting the target is also an option if the need to do so arises. In the 1930s, police departments began using training programs to train their officers on proper use of these kinds of tactical equipment.
To use a tactical light, the light itself has to be held in one hand and the weapon in the other. There are different ways in which to position the light while in use. You can keep it parallel to your gun, or you can hold down to the side of your body. Holding the light down to the side of the body allows to you to trick a target on your location.
There are different ways these lights are made by manufactures to give ease-of-use to the user. One model is made with a narrow body and a ring designed for the fingers to fit through. The light can be powered on and off by sliding the ring backward. This makes it usable with a two handed gun. There is another that turns the light on by releasing pressure from a button mounted on the device allowing for a quick flash if needed.
Quite a few officers like to use a baton style light called a Maglite. In order to be used as a weapon, when carried the back of the Maglite is carried so that the back of the light remains behind the thumb of the person carrying it.
Weapon mounted lighting used to be specific to only certain large firearms. That remains true to an extent today. Surefire still makes certain lights that go to guns like the Mossburg 500 and Bernelli shotgun. Most of today's larger weaponry are being made with Picatinny rail systems to allow for any Picatinny attachments of appropriate size to be attached to the gun.
Some choose to use a clamp like device to attach their lights to their weapons. These allow for tactical lights to be attached to almost any weapon big or small without having to worry about getting just the right attachment. Only downside to this is that you will only be able to have your gun in one position, parallel to your gun barrel. This can make you an easy target while your gun is drawn.
Modifications have been made to some of the weapon mounted lights. They can see farther than they normally do. Instead of 300 meters, they can now be used to see up to 325 meters or more.
Lenses have been produced to allow users of tactical lighting to be able to view the area in different colors allowing them to find different things. A red lens will allow the person using it to save their night-vision. There is a blue lens that can help you find things such as blood. The infrared one sends out a beam that can only be detected by night-vision.This will make you less likely to be seen.
Many different shapes and sizes of a tactical flashlight exist. They allow those we trust to protect us to protect themselves as well. They have been used to save lives of officers by catching assailants off guard so that other officers can move in on them. Thanks to these advances in weaponry, we will have less lives lost and more fugitives caught.
